INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

The benefits of individual therapy can be life changing. I am experienced in helping people alleviate stress, anxiety, depression, grief & loss or whatever is getting in the way of them feeling happy.

As a psychodynamically-orientated therapist, I am interested in both the conscious and unconscious elements of our thoughts, emotions and behaviours, and in assisting clients to understand how the past influences their present, how they might get stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling and relating to themselves and others.

COUPLES THERAPY

I work with couples at all stages of their relationships, from newly established partnerships looking to overcome disagreements to marriages that are facing rocky times. My counselling covers sexual therapy, dealing with trauma, navigating divorce, overcoming parenting struggles, and all manner of other issues. You and your partner can both speak freely to me about your issues, and I will work with you both to open up communication in a safe and controlled manner, allowing you to discover solutions together.

THERAPY STRATEGIES AND SOLUTIONS

I use a multitude of therapy types and approaches in order to find solutions that best work for you and your individual needs. Don’t feel you need to stick with one type of therapy if it isn’t working for you. Our sessions are fluid and tailored to your needs. I will advise you at every stage of the process and help you develop a working treatment plan or therapy schedule that targets the root cause of your own issue(s). Together we can help you to move forward.

PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY

Psychodynamic therapy aims to discover how past relationships are shaping your current experience, and how and why you think and feel the way you do today. We will look at the interactions you have with those around you, and how your behaviours are affecting those relationships. You can explore elements of your past safely and with the support of an experienced, qualified professional who can guide you through trauma and give you fresh insight into your mental health and wellbeing. In gaining understanding about why you feel and act the way you do, you can start to heal and find new ways to relate to the people around you, and new coping strategies for yourself.

SOLUTION FOCUSED THERAPY

With solution-focused therapy, I can help you reflect on strengths you possess and have demonstrated previously in your life so that you can apply them to your current problems and work through them. Solution-focused therapy is for those who have a goal in mind but are unsure how to reach it or feel held back by obstacles that appear insurmountable. You have a great deal of inner strength and by discovering how to focus it, and applying practical solutions, you can overcome the blocks and move forward. Together with other approaches, or as a therapy method in itself, this solution-based pathway will lead you out of your current mental fog and take you to a place where you feel able to meet those goals.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY

The aim of CBT is to recognise negative or problematic thought patterns and behaviours in yourself and to replace them with positive strategies instead. CBT is a proven method of dealing with a variety of diagnosed mental health conditions, such as compulsive disorders, eating disorders and anxiety issues. We can explore your thought patterns together and you may be encouraged to record your thoughts and feelings so that you can reflect on what causes them and the ways you can change them.

SYSTEMIC THERAPY

Often, a person’s emotional issues stem from patterns within their close relationships, with partners or with family members. Uncovering the cause of these negative feelings and behaviours starts with an in-depth analysis of your interpersonal relationships and the roles you and those around you are currently playing. When you gain this awareness of why certain roles are damaging, you can work to break the pattern and move forward. I can help you gain a better understanding in this way, and we can develop solutions together.

EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY (EFT)

EFT is most commonly applied to couples’ therapy sessions, where we unpack the negative emotional cycles that partners can find themselves stuck in, and learn how to escape the pattern. We will all work together to re-establish broken connections, build trust, and use the positive emotions you have to bring you back to the same point as a pair. EFT can build connections in itself, letting you reflect on positive elements of your relationship and reminding you both of the strengths and qualities you admire in each other.
